SCRRA Retro 32 regulations (as of June 13, 2012)

The intention of this class is to provide a 1/32 slot car racing class with scale realism and low cost, to attract new and experienced racers and builders. These will be scratch-built or other designated classes (plastic cars are allowed as long as they meet the dimensional and tire requirements herein).

1. Dimensional Specifications
1a. Maximum Overall Chassis dimensions:

Racing classes based on chassis width.
-Sports cars, coupes, GT: 2 max. chassis/tire track width. Inline.
-Sports cars, coupes, GT: 2 max. chassis/tire track width. Inline.
-Sports cars, coupes, GT: 2 max. chassis/tire track width. Anglewinder or sidewinder.

Maximum wheelbase allowed is 3 3/8. Wheelbase must be within plus or minus 1/8 of body wheel well or scale axle location.

2. Tire specifications
No O ring front tires. No silicone or other tires which can affect another racers tires/lane.

Front tires:  .615 minimum diameter, minimum width: 0.200".
Rear tires:  .740 minimum diameter.
NOTE: The use of "speed rubber" tires (regardless of their brand or name) that have a partial silicone content that effectively leave a deposit on the track is forbidden.

3. Chassis Construction
3a. Chassis type: Any personally-built or commercially available scratch-built chassis or other designated chassis type (i.e., plastic chassis) conforming to these specifications and to the spirit of the intent statement is allowed.

3b. Chassis Materials: Brass sheet, rod and tube, steel wire, pin tubing and guide tongues are allowed. Other chassis materials allowed as designated (i.e. plastic chassis). A one piece three-sided motor bracket including rear axle carrier is required for inline chassis (or motor pod, plastic or metal). For Anglewinder/sidewinder, either an axle tube or 3 sided motor/axle bracket is required. Other than guide tongues, stamped steel parts and EDM or laser-cut parts of any material are not allowed unless submitted for approval.

3c. All hinged movements must be oriented in only one direction (i.e. either side pan hinges OR a plumber hinge, NOT BOTH. Centerline hinges (flexi hinges) are not allowed. No chassis movement, dynamic or induced, may not extend the overall chassis width beyond the maximum allowed for each racing class.

3d. Front Axle: A single straight, round 1/16 minimum-diameter one-piece front axle is required, carrying both front wheels. The axle may be fixed or in a tube. NO hinged front wheel movements are allowed (i.e. no "L" arms). Front wheels may rotate independently. No visual obstruction (including clear material) of any kind across either front or rear wheels must be seen when viewing the car from its sides unless used on the 1/1 car (i.e., rear side panel on a Jaguar).

3e. Rear axle to be 3/32 diameter minimum.

3f. Guide: One guide flag centered on the longitudinal axis of the chassis (i.e. no sideways "free float" or offset) is allowed.

3g. The bottom face of the chassis, excluding wheels and guide, must be flat when fitted over a test block. Minimum Clearance: 0.040" (measured under rear axle including gear) and 0.015" (measured at the lowest, most forward part of the chassis). Both clearances measured with car standing on a flat tech board on its wheels, without guide. Side pans must clear the same measurements (no "hanging pans" allowed)

4. Motor rules
4a. Motor type: Unopened, unmodified JK Falcon II, Slick 7 Mini Brute or TSRF home set motor. Other motors may be considered in the future, but are not allowed unless approved by the D3 Retro 32 committee.  Exclusion Clause: Clear violation of motor-tampering rule will result in permanent exclusion from any Division III participation in any form.

5. Body rules
No Ultimate bodies, no Eurosport bodies, no slab sided wing bodies. Must be scale in appearance to the spirit of the rules. Bodies must be presentably painted and carry at least three racing numbers, one on each side, and one on the front. No part of the chassis may be seen when looking at the car from its top. Bodies must be molded from material with a minimum thickness of 10 thousands of an inch. A separate painted 3D interior/driver is required. No flat driver/interiors allowed.
